Zulu is a 12 week old Great Pyrenees/ Lab mix in for our Puppy Board and Train. She is working hard at learning her obedience commands and had a great time on her first field trip to the park today! 🐾 Training Tip Tuesday: Why Your Dog Ignores You in Public! 🐶

Ever wonder why your dog listens perfectly at home but suddenly “forgets” their training the moment you step outside? 🤔 It all comes down to distractions and threshold training!

✅ The Problem:
At home, your dog is in a low-distraction environment, making it easy to focus. But in public, there are new smells, sights, and sounds competing for their attention.

✅ The Fix:
1️⃣ Start Small – Practice in a quiet, controlled outdoor space before tackling busy parks or streets.
2️⃣ Increase Distractions Gradually – Slowly introduce new challenges (other dogs, people, noises) while reinforcing commands.
3️⃣ Use High-Value Rewards – If you’re competing with squirrels and new scents, kibble won’t cut it! Use something your dog can’t resist (like real meat or their favorite toy).
4️⃣ Be More Engaging – If your dog finds everything else more interesting, make training fun! Use an excited voice, movement, and play to keep their attention.
