We sadly had to say goodbye to “Henry” today. My poor mother is devastated at losing her companion of the last 10+ years.

She rescued him when he was between 1.5 and 2 years old. Henry was hilariously infatuated with my mom. Never left her side and was noticeably depressed when she wasn’t around. He had massive “fear of abandonment” issues with her to the point that he wouldn’t even let anyone else take him on walks.

At first I found his neediness annoying. He would incessantly bark when he wanted to leave a room or needed a change of scenery. But as he grew older I fell in love with his need for close attention. He didn’t like crowds, he liked one-on-one uninterrupted attention and really showed his personality in those quiet moments.

I’ll miss him dearly but take some comfort in knowing he lived an amazing 12 years, is no longer in pain, and is joining Andre and Steve in whatever mythological k9 afterlife there may be
