The Pennsylvania Association of Realtors held its annual meeting in Harrisburg this week, bringing together realtors from across the state to discuss the issues and trends shaping the real estate industry. I enjoyed some insightful discussions at the meeting on topics from interest rates and insurance to affordable housing availability, real help for first-time home buyers, and legislation affecting certification and transactions.

It was great to connect with several Lancaster County realtors; these dedicated professionals work to make a tangible difference for the families and individuals navigating one of life's biggest decisions.

Pictured with me here are (from left): Tom Garman of East Hempfield Township, Rose Madar, Fern Silberman, Glenn Yoder, and Mike Magee. Mike is an East Hempfield Township resident and serves as executive director of the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors.

"They fight not for the lust of conquest. They fight to end conquest. They fight to liberate." - From President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s official address announcing the invasion

In the pre-dawn hours of June 6, 1944, American and Allied forces stormed a 50-mile stretch of beach in Normandy, France, launching the largest amphibious invasion in history. Operation Overlord was a feat of extraordinary planning and scale: 13,000 aircraft and gliders, 23,400 paratroopers, 5,000 ships and landing craft, and roughly 160,000 American, British, and Canadian troops converged on a single objective.

By nightfall, through valor and sheer determination, Allied soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and merchant mariners had secured beachheads on all five landing beaches: Omaha, Utah, Sword, Gold, and Juno. It came at an enormous cost. More than 9,000 Allied service members were killed or wounded that day, their lives given so that freedom might once again prevail across the European continent.

The victory was decisive, turning the tide of World War II and changing the course of history.
