Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20
Nineteenth-century artist William Hunt painted The Light of the World, a well-known work of Christian art based on Revelation 3:20, our verse for today. The painting shows Jesus standing at the door of a house that appears long unused. He is knocking with one hand and holding a lantern in the other. One important detail is easy to miss: the door has no handle on the outside. It can only be opened from within, meaning only the person inside can let Him in.
Jesus rebuked the church in Laodicea for being lukewarm and for losing its passion for the things of God (verses 15–17). This verse pictures Him standing at the door of the church, knocking and waiting to be welcomed into fellowship. He does not force His way in; He waits for an invitation.
One thing I do almost every day is to remember May 11, 1978, when Jesus came into a bar and saved my soul. To keep your passion for Christ strong, welcome Him into your heart throughout the day and remain in close fellowship with Him.
Have a great day…Pastor Freddy
