We are excited to announce that renowned sculptor David Alan Clark has been commissioned to create the monument of Thurgood Marshall that wil stand in the city's new roundabout at the intersection of South Main Street and East 8th Street, within the city’s historically Black business district.

Clark's work now adorns cities, universities, and private collections nationwide. His notable public art projects include:
Senator Matthew Gaines at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas

Civil Rights Leaders: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rev. Hosea Williams, W. A. Scott, Dr. Rita Samuels, and Dorothy Lee Bolden in Atlanta, Georgia

President Abraham Lincoln as a young state senator in Naperville, Illinois

David Thompson, legendary basketball hall of famer from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina

Tom Lee Monument for the local hero and river man who despite he could not swim rescued 32 people from Mississippi River in Memphis, Tennessee

This monument will not only honor Marshall's enduring legacy and relentless fight for justice and equality but also his role in defending Black residents during the 1946 Columbia riots, a role for which he was nearly lynched along the banks of the Duck River.
