Use this mnemonic to remember - Classes of Antiarrhythmic Drugs
There are 4 main classes of antiarrhythmic drugs, grouped according to their mechanisms of action. This classification is known as the Vaughan Williams Classification.
A mnemonic can help you remember the mechanisms of the different antiarrhythmic classes—No Breaks Keep Cramming:
• No: Na+ (sodium) channel blockers = Class I
• Breaks: Beta-blockers = Class II
• Keep: K+ (potassium) channel blockers = Class III
• Cramming: Ca2+ (calcium) channel blockers = Class IV
Mnemonic pulled from MedStudy’s Medical Student Core Cardiology book. Get the full Medical Student Digital Core with MedStudy’s $29 subscription—Step 1 & Step 2 Qbank+ included.
