History came to life for CC students in "From Pearl Harbor to Honouliuli" as they traveled to Hawaii to explore the impact of World War II on Japanese Americans through archival research, visits to historic sites, and conversations with descendants of Japanese American veterans.

The experience challenged students to think critically about how history is told, remembered, and understood.

“Rather than assuming all Nikkei experienced World War II in the same way, the humanization of history afforded from this class helped expand our understanding of how communities form, diverge, and unite during tough periods,” says Kole Petersen ’27.
