It's official...Monsoon Season is here! It's a seasonal shift in wind direction, which typical sends Tropical Moisture up into Colorado. That's when we get those almost daily chances of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms that have the potential for causing Flash Flooding.
This year's Monsoon is looking like it could be quite active! We'll have to wait and see! I can tell you, we won't be seeing very much rain of any sorts over the next couple of days. AND-- it going to be a hot one come Wednesday! Stay cool, and hydrated. Pack the sunscreen as well!
Our rain chances start to pick back up on Saturday, with better chances for moisture next Monday!

Weather Whiplash--Colorado Style! A Cold front cools us down to near 70 degrees on Sunday with scattered showers and storms. THEN--We could be looking at the hottest day so far this year on Wednesday!!! Big changes in just 3 days....

Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect until 8 P.M. for Southeastern Prowers County and Northeastern Baca Counties for the storm seen here.
Radar shows it could be packing golf ball size hail, and winds as high as 60 mph! It's heading east across the state border into Kansas.

Rainbow over Downtown Colorado Springs this Saturday evening....what causes a rainbow?
It's light passing through raindrops...the sunlight is refracted, reflected and dispersed. Basically the light as it is passing through the raindrops, bends, bounces and separates. There is always the same color pattern, red on the outside, and blue on the inside. A little science lesson mixed in with weather!

Weather Alert Day here at KRDO-TV...we want to give you the heads up today...about big weather changes arriving on Sunday.
Tonight I'm tracking some light showers moving through parts of Teller and El Paso Counties on this Saturday evening. We have a good chance of showers and even a thunderstorm as we head later into the evening.
Much cooler air arrives on Sunday thanks to a passing cold front. We will also see a good chance of widespread showers and storm in the afternoon and evening. We could see several waves of rain moving from the high country and across the I-25 Corridor throughout the day. Some of the stronger storms that pop up could produce heavy rain and possibly some small hail.
Catch my forecast tonight after the game-- and the again at 10 P.M...see you then!

Friday will be another warm one here in Southern Colorado, with temperatures in the 90s for most areas in the Pikes Peak Region. The High Country will see highs in the 80s.
Making weekend plans? Might be a good idea to get things done early on Saturday as cooler weather and a chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives late in the day. Sunday will be the wettest day of the weekend with a better chance of widespread showers and storms.
