Powerful testimony from Dr. Mary Jane Minkin at yesterday’s @fda panel on Menopause and Hormone Therapy. She called out the tragedy of the suffering of millions of breast cancer survivors, as well as those at high risk BRCA carriers who do not got access to vaginal estrogen because of fear and misinformation on the vaginal estrogen label. She urged the FDA to remove the black box label on vaginal estrogen that creates a barrier to care and access to safe local vaginal hormones. Importantly, she also referenced the need for proper counseling on hormone therapy for those who have their ovaries removed prematurely, and proactively to prevent breast cancer. Because yes, those BRCA previvors can and should have access to systemic hormone therapy for premature surgical menopause. And yes, it’s in all of the guidelines!
