Slap tap is one of our favorite therapy activities!

This is a visual spatial and bilateral integration activity that helps your child develop better gross motor planning ability.

Our patients that have poor oculomotor control have a hard time with this because the first thing they are asked to do is move a body part without moving any other part on their body. Most children with oculomotor issues really like to move their bodies and heads when they read making this activity especially challenging for them.

The chart pictured is a basic one that we start with. We gradually increase the difficulty by asking them to make more than one movement at a time. We can also add red/green filters for our amblyopia patients to help them learn to use both eyes together.

This is a fun and versatile activity that kids and parents can do together.

πŸ₯ΈπŸ‘€πŸ§  Meet the Doctor

Dr. Brandon Walley is the founder and Optometrist here at Collierville Vision Therapy.

Dr. Walley has always been passionate about Vision Therapy. After opening his clinic Collierville Vision Center in 2015 he started noticing that many children and adults with binocular vision issues were going untreated. He consistently sent his patients to the nearest vision therapy practice, but it was a 45 minute drive for most of his patients. Ultimately these patients did not follow through with the therapy recommended by Dr. Walley because of the distance they would have to travel weekly. So in the summer of 2021 he decided to take a leap of faith and open Collierville Vision Therapy.

Dr. Walley and his wife have 4 children and 2 dogs at home and they have lived in Collierville since 2015. He loves spending time with his family, and cooking just about anything, especially BBQ. He used to play a lot of golf, but with 4 kids it's hard to get out and play very much and he loves having the New Orleans Saints and MS State Bulldog football teams break his heart every year. He also really really likes coffee so feel free to bring him some anytime.
