🌎 Today we honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day, celebrated on the second Monday of October as a time to recognize the histories, cultures, and resilience of Indigenous communities.

Dr. Maya Angelou, a cherished friend of the National Indian Education Association (NIEA), spoke powerfully at their 2003 annual conference about the importance of unity and our collective responsibility as “composers” of a just future. Her words reflect the spirit of this day — one that uplifts Indigenous voices, honors their enduring legacy, and calls us all to work toward truth and justice.

✨ “We are more alike, my friends, than we are unalike.” – Maya Angelou

On this day, may we listen, learn, and celebrate Indigenous cultures while committing to a future built on dignity, respect, and inclusion.
