I have known Rena for 20+ years; she was one of the most inspirational teachers and mentors to me in my teaching job, and now that both of us are retired from teaching, I'm get to work with her again! She started her own social media marketing business a few years ago after she retired, and she is so creative. (Retired teachers are SO skilled, creative, and marketable!) I got to take some branding photos for her this past Spring, and we are partnering up to offer photography + social media to other local brands! Branding photography is something I am going to be able to do a lot more of since I now have my weekdays to work on my own terms, and I love that I am going to be able to help some of her clients create imagery that she will be able to use for their social media marketing!

There aren’t too many things in life that end with a clear timeline. The only thing I can really come up with are school years…those are pretty set in stone. But other things in life—childhood, careers, relationships—don’t always have a clear “end date” that you can see coming.

At the end of this school year, I retired. I have planned to retire this year for the last few, so I knew it would be my last year teaching.

The End of an Era. The Final Chapter. A New Beginning. These are all the “titles” I have placed on this last year. And because I knew exactly when my “ending” was going to take place, I got to celebrate all the lasts!

The last time I had to get my classroom ready for students.
The last time having to take a school yearbook photo.
The last time working a bonfire or lock-in.
The last time presenting at a educational conference.
The last time experiencing the chaos on the last day before Christmas break.
The last time chaperoning a field trip.
The last last week, when students know grades have already been submitted and we’re just hanging on for dear life before that final bell.
The last time walking out of my classroom, turning off the lights, and closing the door.

Today's blog post attempts to answer the question I have gotten over this last month--"How are you feeling now that you're retired?!" To find out how I am processing this drastic life change, take a read: https://www.kimberlycaublephotography.com/blog-archive/celebrating-all-the-lasts

Congrats to Carson on his recent graduation! It has been a joy getting to know his family over the years and documenting their growth. I've been photographing Carson for ten years! (Scroll to the end for a flashback. 😉) And, I got to teach him when he was in 6th grade! Now he's a high school graduate and master fisherman. It was so fun to capture him in his element during his senior session!
