Did you know that your homeowners' policy does not cover rain flooding?

Your homeowner's policy does not cover any flooding caused by leaking roof or water cascading from the gutters and causing damage to your home. You are only covered if the rain gets into your house due to a covered peril, e.g., a windstorm that rips some shingles off your roof or breaks the window.
If you don't have Flood Insurance, please make sure your gutters are cleaned of the fallen leaves and acorns and that your roof is intact.

Flooding or storm surge caused by rain will be covered only by Flood Insurance. Think about getting the flood policy, even if you are not located in a flood zone – it usually costs a fraction of what a flood zone property owner would pay.
