Operation Watchcap

🎉 HALFWAY THERE! 🎉
Operation Watchcap has officially reached a major milestone:
🧢 512 handmade watch caps completed!
🇺🇸 512 veterans one step closer to receiving a warm reminder that their service is remembered.
When we launched our goal of providing 1,000 handmade caps to veterans, we knew it would take dedication, patience, and a community willing to serve others. Thanks to the incredible efforts of our volunteers, supporters, and everyone who has encouraged this mission, we have now crossed the halfway mark.
Every cap represents more than yarn and stitches. It represents gratitude. It represents service. It represents a community coming together to honor those who once stood watch for us.
We still have 488 caps to go, but today we're taking a moment to celebrate how far we've come.
Thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible. Whether you've knitted, crocheted, donated supplies, shared our posts, offered encouragement, or prayed for our mission—you are part of this accomplishment.
Together, we're proving that small acts of service can make a big difference.

Today, we stopped at the Lee Highway memorial where the July 16, 2015 attack began.
The flag flying there had become badly weathered. This was not a ceremony, and it was not done for attention. It was simply a quiet act of honor.
Five service members gave their lives that day protecting others:
Gunnery Sgt. Thomas J. Sullivan
Staff Sgt. David Wyatt
Sgt. Carson Holmquist
Lance Cpl. Squire “Skip” Wells
Petty Officer Randall Smith
Memorials matter because memory matters. And sometimes remembrance looks like stopping, noticing, and doing what should be done.
To the Fallen Five, their families, the wounded, the first responders, and the Chattanooga community still marked by that day: we remember.
May the places that hold their memory always be treated with dignity, respect, and care.
Covering those who covered us.

REMEMBERGING THE FALLEN
This Memorial Day, I want to begin with a tribute that is deeply personal to me.
Daniel “Danny” Ledare Underwood was my great-uncle. He gave his life in Vietnam. I carry his name as my own—my middle name is a reminder of his sacrifice and his legacy.
A few years ago, while living in the Washington, D.C. area, my parents came to visit. I had the opportunity to take my father to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Together, we found Danny’s name etched into the wall.
My father wept as he touched his name.
They were only one year apart in age. They grew up together—not just as family, but as boys who played side by side. One came home. One did not.
That moment has never left me.
This is why Operation Watchcap exists.
Because behind every name is a story. A family. A life that mattered.
This Memorial Day, we invite you to honor someone who made the ultimate sacrifice. You can make a donation in their name and, if you choose, share their story so that it is never forgotten.

We remember Danny.
We remember them all.

This Memorial Day, remembrance can be more than a moment; it can be an impact.
Operation Watchcap’s "Remember the Fallen" campaign invites you to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice by supporting veterans today.
When you donate in memory of a loved one and share their story, your tribute is placed inside a handmade watch cap and given to a veteran, creating a meaningful connection between service and remembrance.
We invite you to sponsor a hat in their honor and help carry forward their legacy.
