It’s National Shortbread Cookie Day! But, ever wonder why it’s called “Shortbread?"

Shortbread gets its name from the word "short", which refers to the pastry's crumbly texture. The term originates from the high fat content of the butter, which interferes with gluten formation in the dough. This interference creates shorter gluten strands, resulting in a softer, more crumbly baked good. Now you know!
