Think HR is on your side? Think again. 😬

Human Resources exists to protect the company, not individual employees. In Ohio, an at-will employment state, complaining to HR can, in many cases, put your job at risk.

Not all complaints are “protected.” Legally protected activity includes things like reporting unlawful discrimination, harassment, wage violations, FMLA leave requests, or disability accommodations.

Complaints about management decisions, salary info, or a coworker’s off-color joke? Those aren’t protected, and HR’s role is not to shield you from consequences.
