5 years of experience often means exposure, repetition, and familiarity.

But without reflection…those years can just become…1 year of experience repeated 5x

However…5 years of examined/studied/introspective experience is compressed growth.

It implies feedback loops…intentional learning…and extracting lessons from every success AND MORE IMPORTANTLY….every failure.

That accelerates wisdom…adaptability…and effectiveness.

So in most cases…the 5 years of examined experience is more valuable…because…

1. Learning compounds – when you reflect…you don’t just experience something…you integrate it.

2. Awareness creates leverage – introspection allows you to adjust faster than someone who blindly repeats mistakes.

3. Quality beats quantity – a shorter…more intentional journey can surpass a longer…passive one.

That said…the ideal is combining BOTH —> longevity + intentionality…years of EXAMINED experience (successes AND failures) is exponentially more powerful than experience alone!

That’s why I have encouraged young up and comers to journal their work.

Track…ponder…review…rewrite…and LEARN from the work you do.

When / if the day comes that you are asked why you…someone of lesser experience…could be more valuable than a person with more experience…pull out your journal and speak on your examined successes and failures.

Offer prof that you did not do the same thing over and over and call it experience.
