Potted trees need regular maintenance, but it can be easy!

I got to work on a customer's Japanese Maple, yesterday. It had been in the same pot for years, and it was overdue for a root pruning!

Pruning the roots of potted trees is critical to maintaining the health of the plant. When roots grow unchecked, they will wrap around and around the inside of their container. This is called girdling, and it causes overcrowding that stifles nutrient absorption and weakens the tree.

Periodic root pruning creates space for fresh soil, and for roots to grow in their pot, which allows the whole tree to thrive. It will also maintain the tree at an appropriate size for its container.

It's just about Springtime, and we are reaching out to customers whose trees we cared for last year to find out how their woody friends are doing.
