Yesterday I threw in a game for the first time in 14 months. I have three takeaways to share from my first time throwing in 2022.
1. Gratitude. I am grateful to have earned the position to compete after a long and mentally taxing rehab. It’s crazy how thousands of hours have prepared me to throw for 15-20 minutes total during my first inning.
2. Controlling the basics is still the most important part of a repeatable delivery, through the excitement of competing again I felt rushed down the mound which took away from my back leg loading correctly.
3. The game is still as its always been, Humbling. The competition in professional baseball is the highest it has ever been. Free bases, mental mistakes will cost you.

Incorporating change ups at the end of my throwing program is something I’ve looked forward to. Now that I’m throwing them again I wanted to share what I believe makes a CH a solid off speed pitch.
1. 7-10 mph Velo differential off the FB
2. Creating side spin which leads to depth
3. Released from the same slot as the FB with confidence.

As I get closer to throwing off the mound I prioritize getting on the slope 3+ days a week. My goal is to be comfortable with my movements BEFORE I begin my mound phase. Each day I work on my direction down the mound, posture and tempo. The best has yet to come!!! 🔓

Steven Kwan ✔️
What a start for Steven Kwan, my man is on another level! This production from Kwan is not an accident, he is one of the most prepared players I have been lucky to have behind me. Notice the little things that Kwan does, his identical pre-pitch routine, deep breaths helping to center himself before at bats. There is so much to learn from a player like Kwan even before he steps into the box.
Steven takes pride in his preparation and it has shown thus far in the show. Look how much fun he is having!
