🚲 E-Bikes, Scooters & Mini-Bikes: What's the difference?
As electric-powered devices, also known as E-Bikes, become more popular, we've received questions about where they can legally be operated. Understanding the differences can help keep everyone safe and prevent unintended violations of the law.
The biggest difference? E-bikes have operable pedals. Under Texas law, electric bicycles are generally treated like traditional bicycles and may be operated where bicycles are allowed. (See Texas Transportation Code Chapters 551 & 664.)
Scooters, pocket bikes, and mini-bikes are not classified as e-bikes and are subject to different laws and restrictions. Before you ride, make sure you know what type of vehicle you have and the laws that apply.
Our goal is to educate our community, answer questions, and help everyone stay safe while enjoying these vehicles. Ride smart and ride safe!
