Second Chance K9 Service Dogs
05/01/2026
It’s the first Friday of the month, which means it’s Five Dollar Friday at Second Chance K9! 🐾
We are asking our community to consider donating just $5.00—the cost of a cup of coffee—to help us honor both Veterans and K9s in need. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, these small contributions make a massive impact on our mission to provide fully trained, ADA-recognized Service Dogs to Special Operations Veterans.
Whether it's funding specialized task training or ensuring our K9s are well-equipped for the elements—even if they are a little dramatic about the weather like Chase—your support keeps our mission moving forward!

Feeling lucky? We certainly are! 🍀🐕🇲
This St. Patrick’s Day, our elite K9s are trading in their working vests for some festive green! While they look adorable in shamrocks, their real "pot of gold" is the life-changing bond they form with our Special Operations Veterans.
At Second Chance K9, we don't rely on luck—we rely on the expert training and dedicated support of our community to rescue high-drive dogs and transform them into life-saving service partners for those battling PTS and TBI.
You can be the "luck" a veteran needs today:
* $5.00 – Buy a "round" of treats for our hard-working K9s.
* Sponsor a Soldier – Can't make it to our Dust Covers Shoot on March 21st? You can still purchase a ticket for an active duty or National Guard member to attend in your place!

🐾 Honoring a Legacy: The Story of Bear 🛡️🐕
On National K9 Veterans Day, we reflect on the dog who started it all. For our founder, Travis Hall, that dog was Bear.
After leaving the military as a 5th Special Forces Medic and K9 Handler, Travis struggled with the transition to civilian life and combat-related trauma. He wasn’t alone in that fight—his military dog, Bear, was also grappling with the effects of combat. When Bear was allowed to retire with Travis, their bond led to a remarkable reduction in trauma symptoms and improved daily life for them both.
When Bear eventually passed away from old age, his loss inspired a new mission: rescuing high-drive breeds like German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois to place them with veterans who truly understand them.
In 2018, Travis received an urgent request to help a retired special operations veteran, a former teammate struggling with PTSD. Travis Hall used his expertise to personally train and donate a rescue dog to his friend, providing a vital source of support.
The success of this first placement led to an organic increase in demand from other veterans seeking similar aid. This overwhelming need served as the catalyst to transform a single act of compassion into the structured organization now known as Second Chance K9 Service Dogs.
Today, we honor Bear’s legacy by continuing to rescue, train, and donate elite service dogs to Special Operations Veterans battling PTS and TBI.
Help us continue Bear’s mission:
* Support our current trainees: Your donations fund the intensive training for dogs like Mongo and Luna.
* Join us on March 21st: Our inaugural Dust Covers Shoot helps fund these life-saving pairings. sck9.eventbrite.com

Happy Friday 13th!
Who says Friday the 13th has to be scary? 🔪🐾
Hi I’m Kuma, Wanna play?
Meet Kuma, our resident "Good Boy”! While he might look like he's ready for a horror movie sequel in his Chucky costume, Kuma is actually a fully trained Service Dog and Ambassador who helps train veteran handlers.
At Second Chance K9, we believe in high-performance training and high-performance fun. Whether he's practicing his public access skills or chasing down a treat in overalls, Kuma's focus is always on his mission: supporting those battling PTS and TBI.
