Did you find all the contaminates in the glass drop off bin at this local recycling convenience center? 1. Bagged recyclables - Never bag your recyclables. Workers do not have the time or capacity to open bags or separate out items at the Material Recovery Facility. They will get sent to landfill - you don’t want your time and efforts of sorting, separating, and dropping off items to go to waste! (literally!)2. Plastic bottles - While acceptable for recycling in Nashville, this bottle needs to be placed in the correct bin.3. Foil trays - Nashville does not accept these for recycling with traditional materials. If the trays are clean and free of food, you can put them in with scrap metal, or take them to a scrap metal vendor.4. Plastic yogurt tubs - These are not accepted for recycling with Nashville Waste Services, presently. Find someone that may reuse these to store leftovers, or to use as plant starters!5. Aluminum cans - While acceptable for recycling in Nashville, this can needs to be placed in the correct bin.6. Blocks of Styrofoam - These are not accepted for recycling with Nashville Waste Services. Take these to EFP Foam, EFP, LLC. in LaVergne (by appointment only) or to Red Knight Distribution, Red Knight Distribution Center in Clarksville (during business hours.) Styrofoam packing peanuts can go to Turnip Green Creative Reuse , and Publix will accept your clean styrofoam takeout containers, meat trays and egg cartons. 7. Cardboard - While acceptable for recycling in Nashville, this box needs to be broken down and placed in the correct bin.8. Plastic clam shells - These are not accepted for recycling with Nashville Waste Services. Check with local gardeners or community gardeners - they often reuse the berry containers. (Franklin FUMC - The Giving Garden, Franklin First United Methodist Church in Franklin, Bell Garden, BELL Garden Bellevue TN in Bellevue).9. Plastic cups - These are not accepted for recycling with Nashville Waste Services.What are the takeaways?
