Well hello there ! Aruensis Eclectus

Carriage horses are well cared for in NYC!!!
🚨Why NYC Carriage Horses Should NOT Be Banned With Intro 943🚨
★Hundreds of people (mainly immigrants) would be out of work and unable to provide for their families, as no other job in their equestrian field of expertise they choose to work in is being offered to them or income while they seek similar work.
★68 small business owners would lose their business as nothing is being offered for the value of their carriage medallion.
★200+ horses that rely on this work for their physical/mental stimulation and to cover the high cost of their care will lose their jobs, homes, and the people they have developed long term relationships with.
★No financial assistance is being offered for the horses long term care or security for what will happen to them if they are placed in a new home that can no longer afford their care.
★The horses would lose the numerous regulations governing their care & the 5 agencies that monitor them.
★Millions of tourists and New Yorkers love patronizing horse carriage rides through Central Park and it should be a tradition preserved for future generations.
★The horses are well cared for, healthy, happy, living good lives and in a well regulated industry that can be even further improved by passing Intro 937, the horse welfare and job protection bill.
★Carriage horses remain the statistically safest mode of transportation in NYC, accidents remain rare, and carriage drivers recently took on new protocols for additional safety measures.
★There are no systemic issues in the carriage industry occurring repetitively and if we acted on emotion over logic to make policy for everything in our city, we would have no cars, bicycles, trees, subways, or dogs.
★The NYPD investigation into what startled the horse to cause the accident involving Romanch Mahajan is still ongoing while the carriage driver & horse involved are no longer in the industry.
★There are real estate interests eyeing the carriage stable properties that have financially fueled false and misleading propaganda against the industry.
★Central Park was designed to be seen from the back of a horse carriage, with horses animating the landscape and slowing down the pace for everyone to relax.
★Numerous equine vets and professionals who visit the stables and examine the horses agree they’re in good health and speak highly of their routine & work.
★The horses are privately owned and if these privately owned, legally operating, small businesses can be taken, what’s protecting another?
★Thousands of horses are sent to slaughter every year because it’s extremely difficult to keep up with the rising cost of care for an unemployed horse and if any rescues or sanctuaries have room for a horse now, the spot should be reserved for one of those homeless horses.
★Over 150 years of historic and iconic NYC tradition would be lost forever.
★NYPD horses share a vet, farrier, and stable neighborhood with NYC carriage horses, have less regulations, work the street more often, and aren’t being considered for a ban.
★The main ban-backers are animal rights activists with extremist views that don’t result in the best choices for animals lives and don’t represent the average person’s views.
★When we forget our history of the bond humans share with horses by continuing to eliminate places for them to exist alongside us in our modern society, we detach from our ability to understand them in order to make the best decisions for their welfare, and ultimately take the first steps towards eliminating their species entirely.
★The horse carriage drivers are represented by the powerful Transport Workers Union who oppose a ban.
★Most New Yorkers and tourists are supportive of the industry continuing as numerous polls have shown.
★NYC Carriage horses are the heart and soul of our city; For many just the sight of a horse among us means so much and many children may never get to pet or feed a horse a carrot without them.

Suggested Scripts For Calling NYC Council Members:
“Hello, I’m calling to urge Council Member [Name] to oppose Intro 943 and request a hearing be scheduled for Intro 937. Intro 943 is an extreme ban that would harm both the carriage horses and the hardworking families who care for them, while Intro 937 was developed with input from veterinarians and equine professionals to strengthen horse welfare while preserving these jobs.”
“Hello, I’m calling to ask the councilmember to please oppose Intro 943 and request to schedule a hearing for Intro 937. Rather than banning an industry outright, Intro 937 provides carefully considered, veterinarian and equine professional informed welfare improvements that protect the horses while allowing the people who care for them to continue making a living.”
