Pilgrim Place kicked off the summer with a creative fourish. Resident weavers Connie Green and Beth Parkes were awarded 1st place in Home Arts at the 2026 L.A. County Fair, and sculptures by residents Al Streyffeler and Pia Moriarty are currently featured in the 2026 Maloof Members Exhibition.
Staff and residents gathered at the beginning of the month for the 2026 Seniority Awards to honor milestone years of employee service, with some staff recognized for 20+ years!
A shout-out to the residents who attended the UMC Annual Conference and promoted Pilgrim Place.
And a special thank you to our community partner, Pomona Valley Pride, for welcoming Pilgrim Place to the 2026 Annual Love Wins Pride Fest. Our residents and staff had a wonderful time celebrating community pride and the opening of Pomona's Institute of Latino Art. That's a wrap on June 2026!

This spring, two Napier Fellows returned to Pilgrim Place to share about their respective work in social justice with residents and friends. 2025 Napier Awardee Natasha Yen presented on May 12 about her youth empowerment and community development efforts in Soweto, South Africa. A few weeks later, 2011 Napier Awardee Takako Mino presented about Musizi University, the first liberal arts college in Uganda, which she co-founded and that is enrolling its first class this fall. Takako’s Napier fellowship project focused on teaching debate to young students in Uganda, sharpening their skills in analyzing and influencing current events. Through their fellowship projects, both Natasha and Takako directly benefited from the generous support of The Napier Initiative, a partnership between Pilgrim Place and The Claremont Colleges that encourages leadership for social change through intergenerational learning.

Pilgrim Place residents recently participated in a music jam session with several undergraduate students and professors from The Claremont Colleges. The event idea came from Sasha Lu, a graduating senior at Pitzer College, and Pilgrim Place resident Nan Cooney. Nan brought in the musical talents of fellow residents Cathy Curtis and Margaret Davis to play different types of songs alongside student musicians—from The Beatles and John Denver to 1900s ragtime, from Maroon Five and Bob Dylan to an old round from the 17th century. “It’s amazing to see the magic of music bridging the many decades that separated our ages,” said Cathy. “Each of us teaching, each of us learning, all of us loving playing and singing songs together.”
