Flag Day is a wonderful reminder of the history, resilience, and unity represented by the Stars and Stripes. As a nonprofit serving our community through therapeutic riding, we love celebrating moments that highlight the strength and spirit that bring people together.
Here are a few fun facts that we’re sharing with our riders, families, and volunteers today:
🔹 The current 50‑star flag was designed by a 17‑year‑old student, Robert G. Heft, whose school project ended up becoming our national symbol.
🔹 The United States has had 27 official flag versions, most of them updated as new states joined the Union.
🔹 Red, white, and blue gained symbolic meaning early on: red for valor, white for purity, and blue for perseverance and justice.
🔹 Six American flags remain on the moon, placed by astronauts during the Apollo missions.
🔹 Our current flag design is the longest-running version in history, unchanged since 1959.
We hope you enjoy Flag Day and take a moment to appreciate the story behind the flag we all share. 🇺🇸
