DuoMente
To close our 2025–2026 DuoMente Chamber Series at Christ the King Lutheran Church, we presented a special collaborative version of the final movement from Lucas Richman’s Paths to Dignity.
More than simply performing the violin concerto, we reimagined its final movement by integrating Richman’s choral work I Am, bringing together solo violin, choir, and audience in a shared musical reflection on dignity, empathy, and human connection.
Paths to Dignity is a deeply moving work centered on the lived experiences of those experiencing homelessness. Built around a recurring seven-note motif spelling DIGNITY, the music transforms this idea throughout the work in different forms, tracing emotional landscapes of displacement, uncertainty, hopelessness, resilience, and ultimately, hope.
Throughout the concerto, the solo violin serves as both observer and guide — not only telling these stories, but inviting us to witness them more closely, with greater compassion and awareness.
For this special performance, the final movement expanded beyond the traditional concerto format. By incorporating I Am, with the Christ the King Lutheran Church choir and audience voices joining together, the performance became not just a presentation, but a communal act of listening.
“This is me, hear my story.
I deserve to be heard.
This is me, don’t ignore me.
Hear my every word.”
These words reflect the heart of the project.
Too often, people experiencing homelessness remain unseen, unheard, or defined only by circumstance, rather than recognized for their humanity, individuality, and stories.
This performance was our invitation to pause, to listen, and to remember that dignity begins with human connection.
Deep gratitude to composer Lucas Richman, the Christ the King Lutheran Church choir, and everyone who shared this powerful final moment with us.

A meaningful and deeply purposeful May for DuoMente ✨
Today, we are honored to perform as featured artists in The Washington International Young Artists Music Series: Resonance in the Washington, D.C. area, presenting Prokofiev Violin Sonata No. 2 and Beethoven Violin Sonata No. 7.
This month also continues our Complete Beethoven recording journey. It will be a Beethoven month for us.
Later this month, DuoMente will bring Lucas Richman’s Paths to Dignity into several shelter communities. This powerful violin concerto addresses the connections between homelessness and mental health, while exploring how music can help restore humanity, dignity, and connection for those experiencing displacement.
The larger Paths to Dignity Project builds partnerships between musicians and homeless advocacy organizations, using music not only as performance, but as a bridge for empathy, healing, and community engagement.

More than a concerto, Paths to Dignity is part of a nationwide project that brings music into direct dialogue with one of today’s most urgent social issues: homelessness. Through deeply expressive musical storytelling, the work reflects the voices, experiences, and humanity of individuals living without stable housing, while also addressing the connection between homelessness and mental health.
At the heart of the project is a belief that music can do more than perform. It can connect, heal, and restore dignity. Each performance is designed not only as a concert, but as a community engagement experience, creating space for empathy, awareness, and real human connection beyond the stage.
