Today, our partners at Butler County for Immigrant Justice (BCIJ) marked one year of showing up weekly to the Butler County Commissioners meeting to advocate for the termination of Butler County’s contract with ICE.

We joined BCIJ for a vigil outside of the Commissioners meeting before packing the room to issue public comment and advocate on behalf of our immigrant neighbors who are being detained and deported at alarming rates.

From there, we marched to the Butler County Jail, where the group attempted to deliver fresh fruit to detainees who are denied fresh vegetables and fruit while being trapped in horrible conditions and subject to abuse.

We were all disappointed, but not surprised, that this simple offering of sustenance was denied. The fruit was a powerful symbol of human dignity and the lack of respect ICE and its partners have for our immigrant neighbors.

It was an honor to stand beside Butler County for Immigrant Justice and we will continue to do so until the county terminates its ICE contract once and for all and all of the detainees are set free.

Show up and show out in solidarity this Saturday at 6pm, Cincinnati! This will be a peaceful vigil in honor of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, Joan Sebastian Guerrero, and all victims of ICE terror.

Justice for Lorenzo, Joan, and all victims of ICE terror! Abolish ICE once and for all!

We're joining people all around the country for a national day of action calling for an end to ICE's reign of terror. The deaths of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Joan Sebastian Guerrero, as well as the currently unnamed person in Florida, are the latest unconscionable acts of the fascist stormtroopers of the Trump administration that is ICE. But their acts of supreme injustice haven't started here. The treatment of the prisoners held in ICE concentration camps, not to mention the previous murders committed by these brownshirts, have continued without much pushback by establishment politicians, Democrat or Republican.

We are holding a vigil on Saturday, July 18, at 6pm, in honor of Lorenzo, Joan, and all victims of ICE terror. Join us as we grieve the losses inflicted by ICE, and call for justice for those harmed, and the prosecution of all of those involved with this reign of terror.
