I-Ching is a tool for divination, which could translate as destiny gambling. Like any tool, if one abuses it, one corrupt its usefulness and ultimately make it a nefarious device. Of course, mischevious people will probably perk their horns at that, but steady people will immediately want to know what constitutes abusing the I-Ching. One way I can think of, rolling it twice for the same question. Another way? Rushing the question. A third way, only reading the changing line. A fourth-way, letting the I-Ching dictate our action, instead of using it to re-examine our prior convictions. In essence, using the I-Ching as a magical fortune-teller although tempting, just leads to false wisdom. Instead, just think of casting the I-Ching as a different way to read a book. It's like a choose your own adventure, where you learn about each chapter. Even more engaging than a choose your own adventure, your own life gets woven into the plot as you contemplate each reading through daily activity. Finally, a healthy dose of skepticism ensures your ordinary mind can grab the reigns if a far-out synchronicity tempts you into dangerous superstitions about a collection of ancient Chinese adages. Aesops fables can easily suffice should you feel yourself slipping down the path to hokie beliefs. I made some assumptions in this post without a whole lot of authority on the matter, and if anyone would like to share their opinion, I won't argue.
