🌿NATIVE PLANT SPOTLIGHT🌿 There are 138 species of Goldenrod, with almost of them being native to North America. 𝘚𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘨𝘰 𝘴𝘱𝘱. is a keystone species, meaning it supports so much biodiversity that removing it would detrimentally throw off ecological balance. Blooming in the fall, it’s one of the few late-season nectar sources for pollinators, and is usually stocked with caterpillars and larvae that allow birds to bulk up on nutrients for the winter. You can find Solidago growing in fields, along roadsides and woodlines, and in areas with poor, disturbed soil. It can spread aggressively by rhizomes, but there are some cultivars that are more clump-forming that behave themselves in ornamental landscapes. 🌾🐛🐝
