You're paying an agency thousands of dollars to get you to the top of Google, but your phone still isn't ringing. Here is the straight truth why.

The June 2026 Google update just finished rolling out, and it proved one terrifying thing for local trades: You can hold the #1 organic ranking on page one, and still be completely invisible to the 60% of users who are now searching with AI.

Traditional SEO rank and AI visibility have officially split.

If your website is built on a heavy, bloated page builder and stuffed with old-school 'SEO keywords,' Google's AI is skipping right past it. It’s grabbing the contractor across town who has clean code and real trust signals, and handing them the job.

I got tired of watching small business owners get fleeced by agencies charging for "monthly SEO" just to send you a 12-page PDF of vanity metrics. You wake up at 5am to run a real business. You need the phone to ring, not a chart showing "impressions."

Wondering why you aren't getting the emergency calls you should be? Send me a DM. I’ll shoot you a free, brutally honest video audit of your online presence and show you exactly where you're bleeding leads. No pitch deck. No corporate jargon. Just results.

"I run entirely on referrals." Famous last words. 💀 Referrals are great until your top guy moves or has a slow season. Then you're at zero. A website isn't a marketing gimmick; it's insurance. It's showing up at 9 PM when someone desperately needs your services. If you aren't visible when they search, your competitor gets paid.

Agency builders: Take notes. This is how you sell a website build. Stop talking about SEO jargon. Talk about keeping their phone ringing. 📉📈

I hear it all the time. I don't need a website, I've got my page.

That page isn't yours. Facebook can change the rules, throttle your reach, or shut you down tomorrow and you have zero say. You're building your whole business on rented land.

A website is the one piece of your online presence you actually own. Your number, your reviews, your work, on a domain with your name on it. Nobody can take it.

Keep the page. Just don't make it your foundation. Build the house on land you own.

Pull your website up on your phone. Not your computer. Your phone.

Text too small. Buttons too close together. Have to zoom in to read anything. A menu that hangs off the side of the screen.

Most of your customers are searching from their phone on a job site, in a parking lot, on the couch. If your site only looks right on a desktop, you built it for the wrong person.

This is the number one thing I see wrong with small business sites. Built once on a big screen and never checked on the device everybody actually uses.

The agency quoted you ten grand. You don't need that.

A website that actually gets you work answers three questions fast. What do you do. Where do you do it. How do I reach you right now.

That's it. Everything else is decoration. The fancy animations and the 12 page menu and the stock photo of people shaking hands do not get you jobs.

Clear beats fancy every time. A clean one page site that loads fast and shows your number will out earn a $10k brochure nobody can navigate.

Don't overpay for confusing.

A customer lands on your site ready to call. Where's the number.

If they have to scroll, hunt, pinch to zoom, or dig through a menu to find how to contact you, you lost them. People don't work for it. They leave.

Your phone number should be at the top, big, and tappable on mobile. Same with a book now or get a quote button. Make the next step stupid easy.

Most small business sites bury the one thing the customer came for. Don't make people work to give you money.

Your site has 3 seconds. That's it.

Over half of people on their phone bail if your page doesn't load by then. They don't wait. They don't try again later. They hit back and tap the next result.

You paid for that click with your reputation and your reviews and they never even saw your homepage.

Go load your own site on your phone off wifi right now. Count the seconds. If you got bored, so did every customer.

This is fixable. It's usually bloated images and a cheap host. We do this all day.

When someone searches plumber near me, three businesses show up on the map first. Those three get the calls. Everybody below splits what's left.

Getting into that top 3 is called ranking in the map pack. It comes down to your profile being complete, real reviews coming in steady, and your name address and phone matching everywhere online.

None of that is luck. It's setup and upkeep.

Most owners don't know the game is even being played. They just think they're unlucky. You're not unlucky. You're not in the pack.

Somebody drove to your shop today. You were open. Google said closed.

They didn't call to check. They went to the next guy.

Wrong hours, old phone number, an address you moved out of two years ago. This stuff quietly bleeds customers and you never even see it happen. No angry call. They just leave.

Go look at your profile right now like you're a stranger. Fix what's wrong. It's the cheapest money you'll make this week.

Things small business owners say to avoid marketing:

"My customers find me through word of mouth." (cool, until they don't)

"I don't trust marketing guys." (fair, most of them suck)

"I'm too busy." (right, until you're not)

"It's too expensive." (compared to what, an empty schedule?)

I get the skepticism.

I'd be skeptical too.

But what you're doing now is it actually working?

DM me.
