HOW

It's that time of year again! Join Housing Opportunities for Women’s Associate Board on June 18 for a night of networking, drinks, and community in support of a mission that has never been more important.
For more than 40 years, HOW has helped individuals and families across Chicagoland move from housing instability to long-term stability through housing, healthcare support, employment services, and wraparound care.
Right now, critical federal funding cuts are putting many nonprofit services at risk, including programs that thousands of Chicagoans rely on every year. Because of this new reality, community support is more important than ever.
At this event, HOW staff and Associate Board members will share more about the organization’s work, the challenges ahead, and how monthly donors can help sustain these life-changing services.
Each ticket includes one complimentary drink. We hope you’ll join us for an evening dedicated to housing justice, connection, and impact. Huge thanks to our friends at Hubbard Inn for hosting us!

HOUSING 👏 IS 👏 HEALTHCARE 👏
As we covered in our last newsletter, NPR’s 1A recently released an episode exploring how Medicaid cuts by the Trump administration could leave American hospitals vulnerable in the years ahead.
More than 80 million people, including 74% of HOW clients, rely on Medicaid. Access to consistent healthcare is a critical part of stability for low-income Americans and losing that access would be catastrophic for many communities.

Every key in this box tells a story.
A story of stability. Of safety. Of starting over.
When a HOW client moves into permanent housing, we keep the key from their old unit as a reminder of what’s possible when people have access to housing and the support of their community. Together, these keys represent hundreds of fresh starts across Chicago.

When your foundation isn’t stable, it’s hard for anything else to be.
For many of the people we serve, the weight of housing insecurity, financial stress, and health challenges can take a real toll.
That’s why our work goes beyond housing. It’s about creating space for healing and long-term well-being.
This month, and every month, we’re reminded that care looks different for everyone. Sometimes it’s access to services. Sometimes it’s a safe place to land. Sometimes it’s simply knowing you’re not alone.
If you or someone you know needs support, or if you want to learn more about how we show up for our community, visit how-inc.org.
