Burkina Faso’s military leaders have shut down the country’s election body, calling it a waste of money.

From now on, the Ministry of Interior will manage all elections.

Since they took power in September 2022, the military leaders have made many changes, including delaying elections that were meant to bring back civilian rule.

On Wednesday, the government passed a new law to remove the Independent National Electoral Commission, which used to organize elections. The Minister of Territorial Administration, Emile Zerbo, said this body cost too much to run.

He said removing the commission will help Burkina Faso have better control over its elections and reduce foreign influence.

State TV (RTB) reported that the Ministry of Interior will now organize all future elections.

Despite this act of kindness, Valentine was arrested and imprisoned. From his prison cell, he penned a heartfelt letter of love and faith addressed to the jailer, signing off with the now-famous phrase, “Yours faithfully, St. Valentine.” On the 14th of February, 1800, Valentine was martyred, and the jailer’s child, whose sight had been restored, began commemorating this day annually. This tradition grew into the Valentine’s Day we know today, celebrated not just in remembrance of love but of sacrifice and devotion.
