সমাজভাষাবিজ্ঞান (Sociolinguistics) এবং মনোভাষাবিজ্ঞান (Psycholinguistics)-এর দৃষ্টিতে ভাষা একটি জাতি ও সম্প্রদায়ের পরিচয়ের প্রতীক। নিজের ভাষায় কথা বলে নিজেকেই মনে করিয়ে দেয়া , “এরা আমার মানুষ। এটাই আমার শিকড়।” বিশেষ করে যখন কেউ নিজের দেশ, বাংলাদেশ, ছেড়ে অন্য দেশে বসবাস করে, তখন এই ভাষাগত আত্মপরিচয় ও অন্তর্ভুক্তির অনুভূতি আরও মূল্যবান হয়ে ওঠে।

তাই প্রবাসে বসে বাংলায় কথা বলা, বাংলা গান গাওয়া, বাংলা চিঠি লেখা কিংবা বাংলাদেশের গল্প করা অনেকের কাছে ঠিক ততটাই স্বস্তিদায়ক, যতটা নির্মল বাতাসে গভীর শ্বাস নেওয়া!

যাদের বুঝতে অসুবিধা হয়, তাদের জন্য আমার এই বাণী আজকে দিয়ে গেলাম।
