There is nothing I can say about the recent racial violence that occurred on Memorial Day that can’t be better said by our black and brown leaders, educators and activists. Find them, read them and support their work. Below are a few recommendations, but reach out for more: cargle

..

My love goes out to my friends and clients of color during this time of grief, fear and anger. I know my words mean nothing unless I follow it up with action. As someone who dedicates herself to the awareness and treatment of trauma it is not lost on me how important it is that I acknowledge the violence and generational trauma that has affected you, your families, friends and communities in a myriad of ways and that your voices of pain and injustice are heard. I understand that to be worthy of you, I must work actively every day to name and dismantle the systems of white supremacy in our society and within myself. Above all else, I want to be a safe person and provide a safe business so that I can support your healing in whatever way you choose to trust me. ..

To my white clients, friends and family members: Do the work. Continue to do the work. Educate yourself and your children about racial bias and our system of white supremacy using the resources above. Listen more. Talk less. Be curious about finding out more. Face your demons. Acknowledge your mistakes. Call out ignorance and the violence you witness from other white people. Check your privilege. Lean into feeling uncomfortable. This work, this is healing work, and it is not easy. It’s not supposed to be. But I promise you whatever you’re feeling pales in comparison to the violence committed against black and brown bodies everyday in this country. It’s the least we can do. ..

I’m not sure there is a song that better encapsulates the bittersweet-ness of passing time. With relentless movement forward and ever changing seasons, we either find ourselves flowing with it or straining against it. From the vantage point of this global pandemic, I find myself surprised that the flowers are making their way to the surface and above ground. Humbled by how little human intervention is required for the natural world to continue on its own. I wonder if these new buds feel afraid to be so vulnerable and exposed to the elements. Or if there’s comfort in having no choice but to rise above. I don’t really have a lesson right now or wise tip on how to make it through this time. I suppose I just wanted to share what I’ve been noticing, feeling and thinking. I know I’m not alone in feeling this way, and hope you know that you aren’t alone either. No one knows what tomorrow will bring, but April, come she will.
~
"April, come she will
When streams are ripe and swelled with rain
May, she will stay
Resting in my arms again
June she'll change her tune
In restless walks she'll prowl the night
July, she will fly
And give no warning to her flight
August, die she must
The autumn winds blow chilly and cold
September, I remember
A love once new has now grown old"

How are you doing today? My hope is that you’re able to offer your body what it needs to feel better or just be OK. Now more than ever. Rest. Drink water. Take a walk outside or open the windows. Eat. Create. Completely zone out. Feel your feelings of fear, anger, or hope. Journal. Work. Read. Binge watch The Office. Learn something new or pick up an old hobby. Do nothing. Clean. Take care of your partner, kids, pets and plants. Take care of you. Call a friend. Ignore a text message. Scroll through memes on social or delete all your apps from your phone. Whatever. Staying home is all you need to do for the world right now. So allow the time you spend there to nourish you. This is just for now. Just like the bulbs over winter, we will all emerge again soon. And it will be glorious. 🏡❤️🌷

Social distancing has me pulling out my embroidery kit and mending holes in this very old quilt my Rhubie girl likes to bury her tennis balls in. Should keep me busy for awhile. Doing my best to move from one hole to the next for no other purpose than to pass the time at home. Practicing the art of slowing down. It’s a lesson for us all. As you may have guessed Quil Studio is closed for the next two weeks in an effort to for our entire community. It was a hard decision to make - especially as a small business - but a healthy community requires all of us to do our part. It’s much bigger than me and you. That being said, I know how many of you rely on acupuncture for your mind and body health - and during this stressful time I hate to leave you hanging. That’s why I’m offering 30 minute phone chats for a couple hours each day to anyone who needs feels they need it. We can discuss how to improve your immune system at home or help deal with anxiety or happy to suggest easy at home self treatment techniques for pain. Honestly we can just talk if you want. These calls will be free, but ask instead that you donate a nominal feel to Marjorie Kovler Center or to any other organization who are on the front lines during this pandemic. To schedule a call feel free to message me or email. Sending my love. Stay safe and 🏡❤️
