I’m very proud to share the design for the Healthy Brain Initiative (HBI): Road Map for American Indian and Alaska Native Peoples. This 88-page report, in collaboration with the Alzheimer's Association and CDC, serves as a guide to help public health professionals working with the Indigenous community, outlining strategies to improve brain health, address dementia, and support the needs of caregivers.

This project was a year-long partnership with John Avila at Avila Creative, Inc. We were also fortunate to partner with April Hale at A.Hale PR, who contributed representative regional photography and brought her Indigenous perspective and cultural knowledge to the project. April’s insight helped guide the design of seven region-specific tribal patterns, thoughtful icons, and a series of illustrations by Peter Hoey that illustrate the life course of an Indigenous family and the Elder’s progression along the dementia continuum.

These meaningful design elements are carried throughout the report and are intended to represent the 574 federally-recognized and sovereign American Indian tribes throughout the United States, while still reflecting the Alzheimer’s Association and CDC brands.

I'm so grateful for the opportunity to learn so much and gain a deeper understanding of Indigenous communities through working on this project. It was also a bit of a full circle moment for me, as I designed two CDC reports on aging nearly 15 years ago.
