Join us this Saturday, June 13th for a free Community Paddling Day with Forest Preserve District of Cook County and Openlands. No experience necessary. We'll provide all gear and instruction. Paddle on the African American Heritage Water Trail, do archery, nature walks and more. Scan the QR code for more information. Paddling slots are 11 am - 12:45 pm and 1:15 - 3 pm. Space is limited. Chicago’s Living Habitat, a new exhibit co-curated by Openlands and the Chicago Architecture Center, invites visitors to experience the landscapes that sustain life across our region — and to see their role in shaping its future.

Through immersive photography and clear, accessible storytelling, the exhibition reveals the diversity of landscapes that define the greater Chicago region. From the dunes along Lake Michigan to prairies, wetlands, woodlands and urban green spaces, these environments support remarkable biodiversity alongside nearly 10 million residents and one of the world’s largest freshwater systems.

Chicago’s Living Habitat will open concurrently with complementary exhibition Flyway City, a new exhibition on bird-friendly architecture and design, co-curated by Studio Gang with the Chicago Architecture Center.
