This quote from the iconic Carrie Fisher resonates with me so deeply. It’s helped me become the woman I am, infinitely more confident than the girl I was. I grew up where quiet perfection was rewarded - being “conscientious” but not boldness and risk taking. .
I grew up afraid of taking risks, of the “action.” I was great at following rules (I still am!). But, business school and working at a tech company where being bold is a core value, I have learned to pursue what scares me. In fact, if it scares me, then I will just do it. .
Failure doesn’t matter. A combination of failure and wins builds confidence. It’s not all about the win, but the falling down and the boldness to get back up - that’s where character and confidence building happen. It’s when it’s hard, not when it’s easy, that you find out who you are. These are the values I will pass down to my daughter. .
