Summer holidays call for brunch burgers 😄 we make our own house-ground blend of eye of round, short rib, and heart from Fischer Farms Natural Foods beef cooked on the char grill, beelerspurepork applewood-smoked bacon, homemade Thai chili American cheese, local lettuce, tomato, house pickles, red onion, Creole mayonnaise. If you’re feeling it, add a fried egg 🙌🏻
We opened big jones in 2008 believing three things to be true that were revolutionary at the time:
1. We believe that Southern Cuisine is one of the world’s great regional cuisines, belonging alongside Chinese, Mexican, French, Italian, or Indian/Pakistani cooking. Southern cuisine had been mistyped and miscast by generations referring to it as “comfort food” or using nostalgic tropes around meemaws and certain racist iconography that unfairly demean it, discounting the training, skill, and artistic sensitivity it takes to cook it well. We believe Southern cuisine is a high cuisine.
2. We believe that the best angels of Southern cuisine call upon a connection to the land, and that seasonal, ever-changing menus would showcase how exciting a Southern kitchen truly is.
3. We believe that as a great regional cuisine, the Southern kitchen is constantly evolving and changing, reflecting changing demographics as well as changing tastes; Southern cuisine is exciting and can be innovative and thought provoking in addition to delicious and nourishing a body and soul.
