“Dark Side Of The Moon Egg”

I had the privilege of photographing David Johansen backstage at the Chicago Metro in 2004 during The Last Waltz benefit concert, organized by Nicholas Tremulis to raise money for Neon Street Programs for Homeless Youth. It was an unforgettable night, and I was lucky to capture candid, unposed moments of him behind the scenes. In some of the shots, he can be seen hanging out with Ian Hunter of Mott the Hoople, two legends sharing a moment.

As the lead singer of the New York Dolls, David Johansen helped shape punk and glam rock, inspiring generations of musicians with his raw energy, fearless style, and rebellious spirit. His influence can be heard in countless artists who followed, from punk legends to rock icons.

He will be deeply missed. R.I.P. David Johansen.

Back in 2008, I came across soldiers on leave from the Iraq War in Hawaii at the Nuʻuanu Pali Lookout, Oʻahu. They were scaling the side of the mountain, full of adrenaline, before sitting on the ledge and taking in the view.
