You guys remember when I had to shut down the studio for six weeks for emergency plumbing renovations? That was over a year ago. 10s of thousands of dollars later and the problem was never really resolved. Three city inspectors came and told us there was nothing wrong with the city side. The supervisor at the water department literally told us there’s nothing wrong and their story will “hold up in court”(?) It took an entire YEAR and some serious palm greasing to get the city to open up the sidewalk. We thought there was a collapsed sewer line in front of our house. But no, it was a sewer line that WASN’T EVEN CONNECTED to the main.
It’s not lost on me that if we lived one mile north or east or north east, this would have been fixed a year ago. We live in a lower socio economic neighborhood and the city’s policy is to ignore these neighborhoods at all cost. It’s so upsetting to think about this happening to a family that doesn’t have the means to grease the palms of a city inspector let alone the 10s of thousands they force you to pay to replace the already working infrastructure on your property. It’s almost impressive how the city of chicago can corrupt something so basic.
I feel like celebrating the fact this is finally happening, but I know that’s just the city gaslighting me.
