The original Prudential Building, built in 1955, was the first skyscraper built in Chicago since the Great Depression. I can remember going there with my parents as a child. We’d head up to the observation deck, to catch a Birdseye panoramic view of the city. It was really exciting to view the city from such a lofty perch!
At the time, it was the tallest building in Chicago, and aside from being in a plane or helicopter, you could not get a better overall view of the city! Now dwarfed by surrounding buildings, like Prudential Two and the AON Center. It’s hard to believe there was a time when this mid century building dominated the Chicago skyline.
