Meet our member of the week, Juan Regalado!

Transferring to the University of Illinois at Chicago has no doubt been the best decision I have made on furthering my education. The culture, diversity, and numerous opportunities available at UIC are what make me value this institution even more. Having moved from Peru to the United States at such a young age and facing numerous challenges along the way have really shaped me as an individual. At UIC I know many have similar stories as I, and for that reason is that I find myself studying there.
Throughout high school I knew I wanted to study something related to business. My brother, who continues to be the best mentor I could have asked for, is an accountant, his guidance and stories of what a typical day for him at his job really left me intrigued on what the profession prospects are. Upon entering my first accounting class at such a diverse institution, I knew this was for me. The role of an Accountant in business is not only crucial, but in high demand, which only made me more determined to major and succeed in it.
During my first year at community college I was able to acquire a job as a cashier at a Chevrolet Dealership. Throughout the course of months my work performance helped me earn a spot as their first ever intern in their Accounting Department. There I was able to learn numerous tasks many entry level accountants perform.
Today, I continue to work for Chevrolet and through networking events at UIC I was able to acquire an internship in the area of Tax at Friedman & Huey Associates. Aside from all of this I must not leave out my enormous gratitude to Beta Alpha Psi, this organization along with the incredible members that form it have opened a door of numerous opportunities for many classmates I know, including myself. Most recently I was able to acquire a summer internship at PricewaterhouseCoopers, due to the networking events offered by Beta Alpha Psi. Individuals like Paige Kucer and Jennifer Torres, who have constantly motivated me to join the organization and to take part in many of the events offered, are reasons why the organization continues to be a door of many opportunities. Thanks for reading a chapter of my life.
