Smokey Smothers

It’s almost that time..here’s the album cover for “The Legacy”, front and back (without the track list). This was taken at last fall by in honor of my grandfather Big Smokey and great uncle Little Smokey. Custom made jersey from that I got in White Sox colors for my mama’s hometown and the place where my grandparents met on the south side of Chicago. The Legacy on the front, The number 29 on the back for the year 1929, the year my granny and granddaddy were born. And of course Smothers to honor my ancestors, my bloodline that sparked this music bug in me since a toddler. Crazy fact.. I knew he had performed there before but had no knowledge of this photo when I had the idea to do my shoot there. When I came across it some weeks ago I felt like he gave me that idea from the other side to do my album cover in front of this building. There’s more to this that I wanna talk about involving a dream he came to me in recently. I’ll do a Smoke Session about it on a smaller platform (my discord channel) because it’s something very sacred to me. This album is very monumental for me. Carrying this name isn’t a lack of self identity, it’s the complete opposite. It’s paying homage to those Mississippi boys that left home to see life different. It’s me honoring my mother’s father and building on the legacy he left. My granddaddy was a “background” guy in this industry, a pioneer that only mostly Blues heads speak about. Cheers to you Otis 🥂 thank you for taking a chance on yourself. Famous or not your name will shine on forever through me. It’s an honor to be your granddaughter. This one is for you💙
