826CHI

At 826CHI, students tell the truth about the one they're living in.
The writing that happens in our programs is nonfiction: personal essays, reflections, reported stories, and narratives rooted in lived experience. Students write about their families, their neighborhoods, moments of change, and the questions they're still figuring out.
These stories matter. They build critical thinking, self-awareness, and confidence. They also remind us that young people are experts in their own lives.
When we make space for students to tell their real stories, we're saying something simple and powerful: your experiences are worth documenting, and your voice belongs in the public record.
What's a story from your own life that changed the way you see the world?

We're less than two months out from Trivia for Cheaters!
April 29 at The Den Theatre will bring together educators, volunteers, donors, and friends of 826CHI for a night that blends strategy, collaboration, and a healthy sense of humor.
The energy in the room matters. So does what it supports.
Funds raised help ensure our writing programs remain tuition-free for students across Chicago.
