Presiding Bishop Yehiel Curry has released a statement on the SCOTUS immigration decisions.
“We are a people shaped by the Word of God, called by the apostle Paul to “welcome one another … just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God” (Romans 15:7). As Lutherans, we confess a faith that compels us to welcome and protect the vulnerable, to honor the dignity God gives every human being, and to uphold laws and policies that provide refuge to those fleeing violence, persecution and profound hardship.”

Two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela last week, leaving devastation in their wake. Entire communities have been reduced to rubble. More than 1,700 lives have been lost, thousands are injured, and countless families are now without shelter, safety, or access to basic necessities.
Lutheran Disaster Response is already on the ground, working through trusted partners including the Lutheran World Federation and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Venezuela. Together, they are assessing urgent needs and providing immediate relief like food, water and shelter while also preparing for the long road to recovery ahead.
Your support makes this work possible. In moments like these, your generosity helps deliver vital aid quickly and ensures we can remain alongside communities for as long as healing takes.
Please consider making a gift today to support families facing unimaginable loss in Venezuela and around the world.

Lutheran Disaster Response is closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela following the two strong earthquakes that struck on June 24. The ELCA is in communication with our companion church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Venezuela (IELV), and with the Lutheran World Federation to assess conditions on the ground and identify emerging needs.
We ask you to keep in your prayers all those impacted by these earthquakes, as well as the rescue workers and the people of Venezuela. You can also support this response by making a gift to Lutheran Disaster Response, which enables us to accompany affected communities and provide critical assistance as needs unfold.
