ADVISORY: Weiss Hospital Staff and Community Rally to Mourn Weiss Hospital Closure, Call for its Reopening

Chicago, Illinois –– Weiss Memorial Hospital plans to shutter its ER at 7am on Friday, August 8, 2025. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a notice of termination, effective this Saturday, August 9 due to cited concerns around nursing services, emergency protocols, and physical environment at Weiss. Patients and staff deserve high quality healthcare conditions. With the hospital closing, the thousands of patients and hundreds of staff who depend on Weiss Memorial Hospital for their healthcare and livelihoods will be hung out to dry. This is part of a larger story of disinvestment, corporate neglect of community, safety-net hospitals like Weiss and private, for-profit speculation in Uptown.
