EIIA
02/21/2024
Did you know EIIA formed as a response to Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) facing racial discrimination when trying to secure insurance coverage?
Denied access to insurance or faced with exorbitant premiums, five HBCUs affiliated with the United Methodist Church were left vulnerable to catastrophic losses, threatening their existence. Dr. John Owen Gross, Former Head of the Division of Higher Education of the Board of Education of the Methodist Church, organized an insurance consortium to serve these institutions, which was the birth of EIIA.
During Black History Month, we not only celebrate the triumphs and contributions of our HBCUs but also recognize the systemic challenges they have courageously faced. As a backbone of EIIA, our partnership with HBCUs has only deepened over the years. Today, EIIA continues to stand as an advocate for private faith-inspired institutions, providing a diverse range of insurance solutions for all campus needs and leveraging our collective bargaining power to navigate the insurance industry.
Through proactive advocacy, superb vendor relationships, and strategic partnerships, EIIA not only secures vital coverage but also partners, prepares, and protects each of our Members. Together, we tackle barriers in higher education and create pathways for Members to thrive.
