Federal audit finds Puerto Rico awaiting billions of dollars nearly a decade after deadly hurricane 07/05/2026

Congress has failed Puerto Rico. This is not about political party—it has spanned multiple administrations: Trump, Biden, and Trump again.

Using actual U.S. foreign-aid disbursements—money paid out, not simply promised—51 sovereign countries received more than $1 billion each from the United States between FY2018 and FY2024.

Some examples include:

🇦🇷 Argentina: $40 billion
🇮🇱 Israel: approximately $26.6 billion
🇦🇫 Afghanistan: approximately $18.5 billion
🇯🇴 Jordan: approximately $11.5 billion
🇪🇬 Egypt: approximately $8.8 billion
🇪🇹 Ethiopia: approximately $8.8 billion

Yet Puerto Rico, whose people are U.S. citizens, continues to fight for fair treatment, dependable infrastructure, health care, disaster recovery, economic development, and equal access to the financial resources our people deserve.

We can send billions across the world, but Congress continues to deny Puerto Rico the full and equal investment it needs. Puerto Rico deserves more than promises—it deserves respect, equity, and action.

Federal audit finds Puerto Rico awaiting billions of dollars nearly a decade after deadly hurricane A federal audit released Wednesday found that only 25% of some $14 billion in federal funds obligated for Puerto Rico’s power grid after Hurricane Maria razed it almost a decade ago has reached the U.S. territory.
