When Dr. Michael Byun meets one of his patients for the first time, he takes his time to listen to their concerns and watch closely to observe the subtle nuances of their unique facial features.

“My work begins by tapping into that subconscious knowledge of beauty by examining the shape of the face,” he explains. “When you look at a flower or fine art, it’s a very biologically inclined notion of what is beautiful. For me, it’s all about maintaining the right proportions.”

Dr. Byun was named a “Facelift Guru” in Chicago magazine’s November 2020 issue. He specializes in doing what he calls a “reverse facelift.” “Rather than pulling tissues away from the face, I position them back into the mid-line area and then up,” says the surgeon.

“While traditional facelift techniques tend to make the aging face appear wider, my focus is on making the face smaller as I place components of tissue to be repositioned directly north. The result is a more vibrant-looking face, which is what we focus on achieving.”
