GENE AUTRY’S Christmas songs (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Here Comes Santa Claus, Frosty the Snowman, Up On The Housetop) remain popular. Johnny Cash had Autry sign his black Martin D-35 guitar. The singing cowboy appeared in 93 movies, released 300 records, and had radio and TV shows. The Autry Museum of the American West in LA obtains stellar reviews.
This iconic photo shows Ken Ziebarth, in red bandana, and his brother Tim obtaining Autry’s autograph in the lobby of the Miles Howard Hotel in 1951. Autry was in town for the Miles City (Montana) Roundup, a large pro rodeo. Autry and his rodeo-production partner Everett Colburn purchased many bucking horses from the Miles City area. Missed the first 20 minutes of the party dedicated to the end of filming of his new film in one of the clubs in New York.
He waited patiently in the rain to be let in.
